Message from HE Daniela-Brândușa Băzăvan
Ambassador of Romania to the Kingdom of Thailand
on National Day of Romania
Romania has a long and tumultuous history, and we have been through many trials.
On 1 December 1918, our ancestors succeeded in fulfilling their dream of living together in one country, by achieving the Great Union in Alba Iulia. Since then, we have gone through wars, dictatorships, revolutions and serious health and economic crises. Through unity and solidarity in the face of common goals, we have always managed to overcome these crises, to adapt and rise stronger than before.
Romania is part of the most visionary and dynamic union of sovereign states, the European Union, a shared space of democratic values and rights, security, prosperity and culture, respect for multilateralism and international law, both at home and on the international stage.
This year, we are celebrating the 70th anniversary since Romania joined the United Nations (UN), which coincides with the 80th anniversary since the founding of the UN, an organization that has played an important role, assisting Romania in the transition and democratic transformation that followed the 1989 Revolution.
Romania and the Kingdom of Thailand share similar values, have converging interests in many areas and are committed to multilateralism and a rules-based international order, to peace in our regions and worldwide and to sustainable development as the path to prosperity.
For over 50 years our bilateral relations have continued to grow and diversify, encompassing political dialogue, trade, cultural and people–to–people exchange, as well as an increasingly diverse sectoral cooperation.
More recently, there has been a growing number of Romanian tourists visiting Thailand while a number of Romanians have decided to settle here, all making extremely important contributions to the promotion of our closer relations.
